Alan Tye - Short Profile

Alan Tye is a chartered architect and one of fewer than ten Royal Designers for Industry for product design. RDI is UK's highest honour in design. He is guest Professor of Industrial Design at The Royal Academy Copenhagen. With over 30 International Design Awards, his products have also been very successful commercially; over 15,000,000 sold in 80 countries. About 160 items of Intellectual Property, patents etc., have been legally protected related to designs he has made.

For the last eight years Alan's studio have developed a unique practical design specialisation called Healthy Industrial Design HID and Sananomics (health law as opposed to ergonomics or work law) which provides factors missing from the conventional design process. This work is particularly beneficial in the design of products in domestic and workplace environments and for architectural products.

Comment by one of the "Top 100" International Corporations with their own human factors departments "We cannot fault your HID and do not have this expertise in house".

HRH Prince Philip presented an award to Alan at Buckingham Palace in July 1993 in recognition for his studio's work in Healthy Industrial Design.

Alan is Chairman of the judges at the Royal Society of Arts "New for Old" European Design Bursary. He has recently returned from a lecture tour, with Kevin Tye, a Director of the studio, to USA, Australia, Japan, China, Hong Kong and Singapore. Alan Tye Design have been advisors to Advanced Workplace Associates Ltd a team of specialists in business strategy, facilities management, finance and disaster standby systems, property, human resources, industrial psychology, IT, and workplace design. Recently the work of the studio has been reviewed by Design magazine, Building, Enterprise, Eindhoven University of Gerontechnology Newsletter, The Observer, Eco Design and The Financial Times. The new studio for the practice of Healthy Industrial Design HID™ received a Royal Institute of British Architects Design Award in 1996.

PS. A review of Alan Tye's work in the new area of Sana-nomic (health-law) was distributed to major figures working in human factors (in Belgium, Scandinavia, USA, Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Finland, Israel, France, Canada, Austria and UK) by Eindhoven University. No one has reported any parallel or superior developments in Healthy Industrial Design or Sananomics in either academic institutions or industrial companies.
